Token tax is the annual (or lifetime, depending on the vehicle) road tax that Punjab vehicle owners must pay to the Excise Department. Unpaid token tax can block a transfer and attract penalties, so it is worth understanding before you buy or sell.

How token tax works

The amount depends on the vehicle type and engine capacity, and the schedule changes from time to time through the provincial finance act. Because third-party tables online often carry old figures, this guide deliberately quotes no fixed rates — always check the current rate for your own vehicle on the official portal or ePay Punjab before you pay.

How to check your token tax status

Open the official MTMIS Punjab portal at https://mtmis.excise.punjab.gov.pk and look up your vehicle by registration number; the record shows the token tax position. This website is an independent guide and is not affiliated with the Excise Department or any government body.

How to pay online

Token tax can be paid online through ePay Punjab at epay.punjab.gov.pk. Generate a PSID (payment slip ID) for your vehicle, pay it through the listed channels (bank, mobile banking or ATM as offered), and keep the receipt. If a PSID fails or a payment does not reflect, do not pay twice — contact the official helplines 1035 or 0800-08786 with your PSID and receipt.

Buying a used vehicle? Check tax first

Before paying a seller, confirm the token tax is fully paid. Unpaid years can become your problem after transfer, so ask for receipts and verify on the portal yourself.
