If you are buying a used car or bike in Punjab, or you simply want to confirm your own vehicle’s record, MTMIS Punjab is the official system that holds the registration record. This guide explains how to check it properly, what the result means, and the mistakes to avoid.
What MTMIS Punjab is
MTMIS stands for Motor Transport Management Information System. It is run by the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Punjab, and it covers vehicles registered in all districts of Punjab through one portal. This website is an independent informational guide and is not affiliated with the Excise Department or any government body. For the actual check, always use the official portal: https://mtmis.excise.punjab.gov.pk
How to verify step by step
Open the official MTMIS Punjab portal and enter your vehicle’s registration number in the verification form, along with any other detail the form asks for. Submit it and read the record it shows: owner name, vehicle make and model, registration date, engine and chassis numbers, and token tax status. Compare the engine and chassis numbers on screen with the numbers physically stamped on the vehicle — if they do not match, stop and investigate before paying anything.
What the result tells you — and what it does not
A matching record confirms the registration details on file. It does not by itself prove the vehicle is not stolen, accident-free, or free of unpaid dues. For a purchase, also check token tax payment, any e-challan dues, and the seller’s identity documents, and meet at a safe public place for inspection.
Common problems
If the portal shows no record, first recheck the number plate format and spelling, then try again later — the portal sometimes goes down. If the record shows a different owner, do not proceed with the purchase until the seller explains it and the transfer position is clear. For help, the official helplines are 1035 and 0800-08786.
Stay safe
Never pay anyone who claims they can “verify faster” for a fee, and never share your CNIC, passwords or OTPs with a third-party verification site. The official verification itself is free on the portal.
