Write for Us

Got something worth saying about sport? We want to read it.

SportifyHQ is an independent sports media outlet covering 28+ sports for over 2.5 million readers a month. We're not a content farm and we're not a link exchange — we're a working newsroom of 120+ writers, editors, and analysts across 30 countries, and we're always looking for contributors who can report, analyse, or argue a point better than the next site.

If you know a sport well enough to say something nobody else is saying, this page tells you exactly how to pitch us, what we'll publish, and what we won't.

Why Write for SportifyHQ

We built SportifyHQ on one rule: report the whole story, not just the scoreline. That applies to staff writers and guest contributors alike.

Here's what you get by writing for us:

Why Write for SportifyHQ

We are not looking for content mills, AI-spun filler, or one-off backlink drops. We're looking for people who can write like they actually watch the sport.

Real readership.

Your byline goes in front of 2.5 million monthly readers, not a dormant blog with no traffic.

Editorial credibility.

We’re an independent outlet with a public corrections policy and no pay-for-coverage arrangements. A SportifyHQ byline means something because we don’t hand them out for free.

A genuine author bio and link.

Approved contributors get a proper bio with a website or social link — not buried, not “nofollow by default,” reviewed on merit (see our Dofollow/Nofollow Link Policy below).

Wide sport coverage.

We publish across football, cricket, basketball, esports, tennis, Formula 1, MMA, baseball, rugby, hockey, boxing, golf, cycling, swimming, chess, and 15+ other sports — so niche expertise has a real home here, not just the mainstream four.

An editorial team that actually edits.

You’ll work with a real Senior Editor in your sport’s vertical, not an auto-approval queue.

Topics We Accept

We publish original sports journalism, analysis, and commentary across our existing categories, including:

Football Cricket Basketball American Football Esports Tennis Formula 1 MotoGP Rally NASCAR Boxing MMA Wrestling Judo Taekwondo Baseball Rugby Hockey Golf Cycling Swimming Volleyball Badminton Table Tennis Chess

Submission Guidelines & Editorial Policies

Please review before submitting your pitch — most rejected pitches fail because a policy below wasn't followed.

Topics We Accept

We publish original sports journalism, analysis, and commentary across our existing categories, including:

  • Football (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, MLS, international, transfer analysis, tactics)
  • Cricket (Test, ODI, T20, IPL and domestic leagues, player analysis)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAA, international)
  • American Football (NFL, NCAA)
  • Esports (competitive gaming, major tournaments, team/player profiles)
  • Tennis (ATP, WTA, Grand Slams, rankings analysis)
  • Formula 1, MotoGP, Rally, NASCAR (race analysis, technical breakdowns, driver/team profiles)
  • Combat sports — Boxing, MMA, Wrestling, Judo, Taekwondo
  • Baseball, Rugby, Hockey, Golf, Cycling, Swimming, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, and other categories listed in our sports directory
  • Cross-sport features: sports business, sports science, athlete career analysis, historical retrospectives, training and performance content written from a journalistic (not advisory) angle

Content formats we accept:

  • Match/event analysis and reaction
  • Player and team profiles
  • Tactical and statistical breakdowns
  • Long-form features and investigative pieces
  • Opinion and commentary (clearly framed as opinion)
  • Explainers (“how does X scoring system work,” “guide to X tournament”)
  • Historical features and “on this day”–style retrospectives
  • Data-driven pieces with original analysis

If your idea doesn’t fit neatly into a category above but is genuinely sports-related and well-reported, pitch it anyway. We’d rather see a good idea that doesn’t fit a template than a template piece with nothing to say.

Topics We Don't Accept

To protect reader trust and stay consistent with our Disclaimer and Terms & Conditions, we do not publish:

  • Betting tips, predictions, odds content, or gambling advisory content of any kind. We report on sports, not on how to bet on them.
  • Casino, sportsbook, or gambling-affiliate content, including thinly disguised “responsible gambling guide” pieces built around betting links.
  • CBD, supplements, or performance-enhancement product content, including sponsored placements dressed as editorial.
  • Cryptocurrency, NFT, or Web3 content, including “crypto meets sports” trend pieces, unless it’s genuine sports-business journalism with no promotional or affiliate angle — reviewed case by case and rarely approved.
  • Adult, explicit, or sexualised content of any kind, including content sexualising athletes.
  • Health, medical, injury-recovery, or performance/nutrition advice presented as professional guidance. We can report on an athlete’s injury and recovery timeline as news; we will not publish “how to train like X” content that reads as medical or fitness advice.
  • Political content unrelated to sport, or sport content used as a vehicle for unrelated political messaging.
  • Content about real people that is defamatory, unverified, or presented as fact without sourcing — this includes transfer rumours reported as confirmed news.
  • Press releases, reworded PR copy, or announcement content without independent reporting or analysis added.
  • Product reviews or “best of” listicles unrelated to sport journalism (e.g., generic e-commerce round-ups shoehorned into a sports angle purely for affiliate revenue).
  • AI-generated content submitted as human-authored (see our AI Content Policy).
  • Plagiarised, spun, or duplicate content in any form.

If you’re unsure whether your topic fits, pitch it before writing the full piece. It saves everyone time.

Guest Post Guidelines
  • Pitch first, or submit a complete draft — both are accepted, but a short pitch gets you faster, more useful feedback before you invest time in a full piece.
  • Word count: 1,200–2,500 words for standard features and analysis pieces. Explainers and news-style pieces can run shorter (800+ words) if the topic doesn’t need more. Investigative or data-led features can run longer — flag this in your pitch.
  • One submission at a time for first-time contributors. Once you’ve had a piece approved, you’re welcome to pitch multiple ideas.
  • Original ideas only. We don’t accept rewrites of stories already covered elsewhere unless you’re bringing new reporting, data, or an angle nobody else has run.
  • No syndicated or previously published content. See our Duplicate Content Policy.
Content Quality Requirements

We hold guest contributions to the same bar as our staff writers:

  • Clear, confident writing with a defined point of view where the format calls for one (analysis, opinion).
  • Correct use of names, dates, scores, stats, and terminology specific to the sport — nothing kills credibility with our readers faster than a factual sports error.
  • A real structure: a strong opening, logically ordered sections, and a conclusion that actually concludes something.
  • Evidence of subject knowledge beyond what’s on the first page of a Google search. We can tell.
  • No filler. If a paragraph doesn’t add information, an example, or an argument, cut it.

We reserve editorial judgment on quality. A technically correct piece that’s flat, generic, or reads like every other article on the topic will be rejected or sent back for a substantial rewrite.

Originality Requirements
  • All content must be 100% original and written specifically for SportifyHQ.
  • It must not be published anywhere else — including your own blog, Medium, LinkedIn, or another publication — before or after we publish it, unless we agree to a syndication arrangement in writing.
  • Quotes, statistics, and data pulled from other sources must be properly attributed with a link to the original source. Do not present third-party reporting as your own.
  • We run originality and plagiarism checks on every submission before and after publication.
AI Content Policy

We allow AI tools for research assistance, grammar checking, and outlining — the same way a writer might use any other tool.

We do not accept content that is substantially AI-generated and passed off as original human writing. Specifically:

  • Submissions must reflect your own reporting, analysis, opinions, and voice — not a paraphrase of an AI-generated draft.
  • We check for common AI-writing patterns (generic phrasing, unverifiable claims, invented statistics, hallucinated quotes) as part of our editorial review.
  • Any factual claim, statistic, or quote in your submission must be independently verifiable. AI tools are known to fabricate these — if we can’t verify it, we won’t publish it, and repeated issues will end the working relationship.
  • If AI assistance was used at any stage (research, editing, structuring), briefly disclose this in your submission email. Non-disclosure discovered after the fact is treated as a breach of our Originality Requirements above.

This policy exists to protect our readers, not to police your workflow. Use the tools you use — just make sure what lands in our inbox is genuinely yours.

SEO Guidelines
  • Target one primary keyword or topic per article, with a natural secondary keyword or two. Don’t force keyword density — we optimise for readers first, search engines second, same as our own editorial content.
  • Suggested title and meta description are welcome but not mandatory — our editors will finalise these for on-site consistency.
  • Use descriptive subheadings (H2/H3) that reflect what the section actually covers, not vague labels.
  • Avoid keyword-stuffed anchor text in any links you include. Natural, descriptive anchor text only.
  • We do not publish content built primarily to rank for a commercial keyword with no genuine reader value — that’s an advertorial, not an article, and it needs to go through our Sponsored Posts process instead.
Formatting Requirements
  • Submit in Google Docs (preferred, with commenting enabled) or as a clean .docx file. Plain text is acceptable for short pieces.
  • Use proper heading hierarchy: one H1 (the title), H2 for main sections, H3 for sub-sections.
  • Break up long paragraphs — 2–4 sentences per paragraph is the target for web readability.
  • Bullet points and numbered lists are encouraged where they aid clarity (stats comparisons, timelines, key takeaways).
  • Bold key terms or standout stats sparingly — don’t bold entire sentences.
  • Include a short author bio (see Author Bio Guidelines) at the end of the document, not embedded mid-article.
  • No embedded tracking pixels, scripts, or hidden text of any kind. Submissions containing these are rejected outright and the contributor is blacklisted.
Image Guidelines
  • You must own the rights to any image you submit, or it must be licensed for commercial reuse (e.g., Unsplash, Pexels, properly licensed stock) with attribution where required.
  • Do not submit copyrighted press photography, official team/league imagery, or paparazzi/celebrity photos without a verifiable licence — we will not publish these and cannot verify licensing on your behalf after the fact.
  • Minimum resolution: 1200px wide, landscape orientation preferred for featured images.
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, or WebP.
  • Provide a short, accurate caption and photo credit for every image.
  • We may replace submitted images with our own licensed imagery at editorial discretion, particularly for featured/hero images.
External Link Policy
  • A maximum of 2–3 external links per article, pointing only to authoritative, relevant sources — official league/federation sites, reputable sports data providers, or the original source of a stat or quote you’re citing.
  • We do not accept links to competitor sports news/blog sites, low-authority content farms, or unrelated commercial sites.
  • No links to betting sites, casino sites, CBD/supplement stores, crypto exchanges, or adult content, under any circumstances — this applies even if the article topic is otherwise approved.
  • All external links are reviewed individually. We remove or nofollow any link that doesn’t meet editorial standards, without notifying the contributor for minor cases.
Internal Link Policy
  • We’re happy to include 1–2 relevant internal links to existing SportifyHQ articles or player profiles where they add genuine value to the reader (e.g., linking to a player’s profile page from a match analysis piece).
  • Suggest internal links in your submission if you know of relevant existing SportifyHQ content — our editors will also add these during review.
  • Internal linking is an editorial decision; we will not add internal links purely at a contributor’s request if they don’t serve the reader.
Affiliate Link Policy
  • Affiliate links are not permitted in standard guest post submissions.
  • If your organisation has a legitimate affiliate partnership relevant to the article topic (e.g., a sports equipment retailer contributing a gear-focused feature), this must be disclosed upfront before you submit, and any approved piece will be labelled as containing affiliate links in line with our Disclaimer.
  • Undisclosed affiliate links discovered in a submission or after publication will result in immediate removal of the content and the contributor being blocked from future submissions.
Promotional Content Policy
  • Guest posts are editorial content, not advertising. We do not accept articles written primarily to promote a brand, product, service, app, or event.
  • You may mention a relevant company, product, or event once, in context, without promotional language — the same way our staff writers would reference a sponsor or product in a news piece.
  • If you want to promote a brand, product, or service more directly, that’s a Sponsored Post (see below), not a guest contribution, and it’s a separate paid arrangement with different disclosure requirements.
  • Author bios may include one link to your personal site, portfolio, or social profile — see Author Bio Guidelines.
Gambling / Casino / CBD / Crypto Policy

SportifyHQ does not publish gambling, casino, sportsbook, CBD, supplement, or cryptocurrency content or links, in guest posts, sponsored posts, or any other format. This is a firm editorial line, not a case-by-case judgment call, and it exists to keep our coverage genuinely independent and to comply with advertising standards in the markets we serve. Submissions in this category will be rejected without further review, regardless of how the topic is framed.

Adult Content Policy

SportifyHQ does not publish sexual, explicit, or adult-oriented content in any form, and does not publish content that sexualises athletes, sports personalities, or any individual. This applies to text and images. Submissions violating this policy are rejected immediately and the contributor is permanently blocked from future submissions.

Copyright Policy
  • You must be the original author of any submission, and must hold the rights to any images, data visualisations, or embedded content included.
  • Do not submit content that infringes on the copyright of another publication, journalist, photographer, or organisation.
  • If we determine a submission — before or after publication — contains plagiarised or copyright-infringing material, we will remove it immediately, and repeat or serious violations are reported and may result in legal action, consistent with our Terms & Conditions.
  • If you believe your copyrighted material has been used without permission in a piece published on SportifyHQ, contact legal@sportify.com with details and we will investigate promptly.
Fact-Checking Requirements
  • Every factual claim — scores, stats, dates, quotes, records — should be accurate and, wherever possible, sourced.
  • Where you’re citing a stat or claim from another outlet, include the source (even if it doesn’t make the final published link count) so our editors can verify it during review.
  • Direct quotes must be accurate and attributed to a specific, verifiable source — press conference, official statement, interview, or reputable outlet.
  • Our editorial team fact-checks submissions before publication. Pieces with unverifiable or inaccurate claims are sent back for correction or rejected.
Editorial Rights

By submitting content to SportifyHQ, you agree that our editorial team may:

  • Edit for length, clarity, grammar, house style, and SEO structure.
  • Adjust headlines, subheadings, and meta descriptions for on-site consistency.
  • Remove or modify links that don’t meet our link policies.
  • Add relevant internal links, images, or data visualisations.
  • Decline to publish a submission at any stage, including after initial approval, if it no longer meets our standards or if factual issues emerge during fact-checking.

We will not materially change the argument, tone, or conclusions of an opinion piece without discussing it with you first — but house style, structure, and factual accuracy edits are made at editorial discretion.

Response Time
  • Pitches: We aim to respond within 1–3 working days. If you haven't heard back after 5 working days, it's fine to follow up once.
  • Full draft submissions: Initial review within 1–3 working days.
  • Due to submission volume, we're not able to send detailed feedback on every rejected pitch, but we'll always let you know if a submission has been declined.
Content Updates
  • Once published, SportifyHQ retains editorial control over the piece, including the right to update it for accuracy (e.g., updated stats, corrected scores, post-event follow-ups).
  • Significant factual corrections are noted transparently in line with our Disclaimer corrections policy.
  • If you spot an error in your published piece, email editorial@sportify.com and we'll review and correct it promptly.
Author Bio Guidelines
  • Bios are 40–60 words, third person, written in a tone consistent with the article.
  • Include your name, relevant credentials or experience, and (optionally) one link to your website, portfolio, or a single social profile.
  • No more than one link per bio. Links are reviewed the same way as in-article links — no gambling, adult, CBD, or crypto sites.
  • We reserve the right to edit bios for length and house style.
Plagiarism Policy

All submissions are checked for plagiarism before publication. Any content found to be copied, closely paraphrased without attribution, or lifted from another source — published or unpublished — will be rejected immediately. Confirmed plagiarism results in a permanent block from future contributions and, where relevant, notification to the original source.

Duplicate Content Policy

We only publish content that is exclusive to SportifyHQ. We do not accept:

  • Articles already published elsewhere, in full or in substantially similar form.
  • Articles you intend to publish elsewhere (your own site, another publication, content mills) after we publish them, unless agreed otherwise in writing.
  • Spun or reworded versions of an article you’ve submitted to other sites.

If you’d like to reference or expand on a piece originally published elsewhere, that requires a written syndication agreement — email editorial@sportify.com to discuss before submitting.

Sponsored Posts Policy

Sponsored content is a separate track from guest contributions:

  • Sponsored posts are paid placements, written to our editorial quality and fact-checking standards, but funded by a named commercial partner.
  • All sponsored content is clearly labelled as sponsored/partner content, in line with our Disclaimer and advertising standards.
  • Sponsored posts are subject to the same Gambling/Casino/CBD/Crypto and Adult Content restrictions as guest posts — sponsorship does not override these policies.
  • Links in sponsored posts are nofollow/sponsored by default, per search engine guidelines on paid content.
  • For sponsored post rates and availability, contact us directly using the details below — this is handled separately from the standard editorial submission process.
Dofollow/Nofollow Link Policy
  • Editorial guest post links (author bio link, and any approved in-article external links) are typically published as dofollow, reflecting genuine editorial endorsement of the source.
  • Links that don’t meet our quality bar, are unrelated to the article’s authority, or come from a first-time contributor’s less-established site may be published as nofollow at editorial discretion.
  • All sponsored, paid, or affiliate content links are nofollow/sponsored, without exception, in line with search engine guidelines and our advertising disclosure obligations.
  • We do not sell dofollow links, guarantee link status in advance, or negotiate link attributes as part of a “guest post package.” If that’s what you’re looking for, this isn’t the right page.
Content Ownership
  • Once published, the article becomes part of SportifyHQ’s editorial archive. You retain authorship credit, but you grant SportifyHQ an exclusive licence to host, distribute, edit, and archive the piece on our platform and associated channels (newsletter, social distribution).
  • You may not republish the same piece elsewhere after publication without our written permission (see Duplicate Content Policy).
  • You’re welcome to link to your published SportifyHQ article from your own site, portfolio, or social profiles, and to reference it as a published clip.
Removal Policy
  • We don’t remove published content on request simply because a contributor has changed their mind, unless there’s a genuine legal, safety, or accuracy issue.
  • Valid removal requests include: factual inaccuracy we can’t correct in place, a legitimate copyright claim, or a legal/safety concern.
  • Submit removal requests to editorial@sportify.com with a clear explanation. We review these individually and respond within 10 working days.
Rejection Reasons

Common reasons submissions don’t proceed:

  • Topic falls under our Topics We Don’t Accept list.
  • Content is AI-generated or shows clear signs of unverified/fabricated claims.
  • Piece is generic, thin, or adds nothing beyond what’s already widely published.
  • Unverifiable statistics, quotes, or claims.
  • Plagiarism or duplicate content detected.
  • Excessive, irrelevant, or policy-violating links (gambling, CBD, crypto, adult).
  • Submission doesn’t follow formatting or word count guidelines and isn’t corrected after feedback.
  • Poor grammar, structure, or clarity below our publishing standard.

A rejection isn’t necessarily permanent — if a piece is close but not quite there, we’ll usually tell you what needs to change.

Submission Process
  1. Read this page in full. Most rejected pitches fail because a policy above wasn't followed.
  2. Send your pitch or draft to contact@sportifyhq.com with the subject line: Guest Post Pitch – [Your Topic/Sport].
  3. Include in your email:
    • Your proposed title or topic and a 2–3 sentence summary of the angle
    • The sport/category it fits under
    • Your relevant experience or expertise (previous bylines, credentials, or why you're the right person to write this)
    • A link to previous writing samples, if available
    • Your proposed author bio (or note that you'll provide it once approved)
    • Disclosure of any AI-assisted research/editing, per our AI Content Policy
  4. Wait for a response within the timeframe listed in Response Time above.
  5. Once approved, you'll receive submission instructions and a deadline from your assigned editor.

Second contact option: If you prefer, you can also reach us through our Contact page at https://sportifyhq.com/contact/. Please include the same information as outlined above to help us review your submission efficiently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a professional journalist to write for SportifyHQ?

No. As we say on our About page, a formal journalism background isn't required — good writing and real sport knowledge are. Several of our senior editors started as fans who could write.

Is guest posting on SportifyHQ free, or do I need to pay?

Standard editorial guest contributions are free — we don't charge for publication, and we don't sell placements. Paid Sponsored Posts are a separate, clearly labelled track (see Sponsored Posts Policy).

Will my article definitely get a dofollow link?

Not automatically. Dofollow status is an editorial decision based on the quality and relevance of the link, not a guarantee tied to submission. See our Dofollow/Nofollow Link Policy.

Can I submit a guest post purely to build a backlink?

No. We publish content for readers first. If the primary goal of your pitch is link acquisition rather than genuine sports journalism, it won't pass review.

Do you accept content written with AI assistance?

Limited assistance (research, grammar checking) is fine if disclosed. Substantially AI-generated content presented as original writing is not accepted. See our AI Content Policy.

Can I include a link to my business or client's website?

One relevant link in your author bio is fine. Promotional links within the article body are not permitted under our Promotional Content Policy — that's what Sponsored Posts are for.

How long does it take to get published after approval?

Typically 2–4 weeks, depending on our editorial calendar. See Publication Timeline.

Can I republish my SportifyHQ article on my own blog or LinkedIn afterward?

Not without written permission — see our Duplicate Content Policy and Content Ownership sections.

What sports are you most interested in right now?

We're always open across all 28+ categories we cover, but well-reported pieces on underserved sports on our site (rugby, hockey, cycling, table tennis, chess, combat sports) tend to stand out faster than another football transfer piece.

I run a sports betting or crypto-related site — can we work together another way?

Not through editorial guest posting or sponsored content — see our Gambling/Casino/CBD/Crypto Policy. This applies regardless of the proposed article angle.

Ready to Pitch?

If you've read this far, you already know more about how we work than most people who email us. If you've got a sports story, angle, or piece of analysis that deserves a real audience, we want to hear it.

Send your pitch to contact@sportifyhq.com with your topic, your angle, and why you're the right person to write it.

We read every pitch. We don't publish every pitch. The difference is usually in the details above.
